Getting back in to triathlon training
An acquaintance of mine was very active triathlete in the 80′s and now, in middle age, wants to get back into triathlons.
Here’s a quick list of sites for beginners/returners to the sport looking to start a training regime.
- beginnertriathlete.com – several basic plans for free
- active.com – some training plans and lots of helpful articles
Another great resource, besides the Triathlon Workout Planner is the The Triathlete’s Training Bible, a very comprehensive guide.
In print you can read Triathlete Magazine and Runner’s World for helpful for training tips and nutrition plans.

I have found this site very helpful: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/default.asp
you can download the basic plans for free (you just have to create a username and password).
I am also reading the Traithlete's Training Bible which I've found very helpful. Here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Triathletes-Training-Bible-2nd/dp/1931382425/sr=8-1/qid=1166556343/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-3582395-1886267?ie=UTF8&s=books
I also read Triathlon 101. Here's the Amazon link for it: http://www.amazon.com/Triathlon-101-Essentials-Multisport-Success/dp/0880118113/sr=8-14/qid=1166556383/ref=sr_1_14/103-3582395-1886267?ie=UTF8&s=books
I have also found Triathlete Magazine and Runner's World very helpful for training tips and nutrition plans. In addition, I have registered at active.com (you may have a username and password already if you have signed up for any races or events through their site). If not, it's also free, and you can sign up to have triathlon-specific articles sent to your email address. I've found these really helpful, too.
Good luck!
